What more do you want?

It was reported on the Rachel Maddow Show that there is a bill in the house that will force Obama to show a birth certificate. I have some news for Lou Dobbs, Alan Keyes(who incidentally lost to Obama in 2004), and all the others who say that they want to see Obama's birth certificate, He has released his birth certificate!! It's on his website! Factcheck has seen it! Politafact has seen it! Everyone with sense has accepted that Obama is a citizen!

Seriously, these are the people who kept insisting that George Bush was president and now Obama is not a citizen. Where was he born, if not in Hawaii? Kenya? Krypton?

Look I know that you might not like Obama or his policies, but he won fair and square. Get over it. If the G.O.P. keeps harping on this they will lose in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. They are making a fatal mistake. Get your act together or get out of the fast lane.

In short we have the cute versus the dark. The philosophical versus the simple. The happy versus the depressing. The realistic versus the impossible.

Okay I'm having way to much fun with that. The voting will take place at the right. You have till the 31st to vote. May the best song win.

Cool political quizs

The website On the Issues has some cool political quizs. It told me that I am a hard-core liberal, like Joe Biden, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton, Patrick Leahy, Dick Durbin, and hate Larry Craig, Fred Thompson, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney. Actually, I agree with Thompson on nothing, and Tancredo, Romney, Hunter, and Gingrich on no social issue.

The quiz is actually very useful because you can look up senate races and house races so you can find out which candidate to vote for.

RIP Walter Cronkite

Yesterday news legend Walter Cronkite passed away. He was 91 and had been struggling with disease for several years. Walter Cronkite had been named the "most trusted man in America" in many viewer polls. One of the most historic events of his career was when he travled to Vietnam, came back, and read an editorial on teh air that was highly critical of the Vietnam War. President Johnson would later sahy that when he lost Walter Cronkite he lost the American public.

So, goodbye Uncle Walter, rest in peace, and that's the way it is.

My post on NPR

I just posted on a NPR blog! The question was what would you ask Sonia Sotomeyer, sorry for the spelling, I answered "What are your views on the legality of gay marriage, keeping in mind that the 14th amendment states that 'No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property,' and that the Supreme Court ruled that marriage is one of the 'basic civil rights of man. Marriage and procreation are fundamental to the very existence and survival of the race.'?

I've gone insnane

Today I decided to get out my Live Earth CD/DVD I was listening to it and a song came on. It was a hip-hop song called Where is the love by the Black Eyed Peas. And I liked it! I know I know, I called this blog the Liberal Rocker and I have posts about how horrible rap is. I'm considering turning this blog over to ben right now, as I'm no longer of fit to run it.

Just listen to the song before you start criticizing me me, it does have great lyrics, but still the principle! (sob) I need a therapist.

Classic Movie review: Grease

Grease was listed as the 20th best musical film of all time by AFI. I must disagree. I didn't like Grease at all, but it did teach me something. I have gone through my life thinking that if a misogynistic jerk wants a nice, clean-cut girl to like him he should change his behaviour, then I watch Grease and I see that it's the other way around! Why didn't anyone tell me?

The only list that Grease should have placed high on is the list of most sexist films ever made. I'm not just talking about sexism directed at women, though there is plenty of that, but there is also a huge amount of sexism directed at men. This movie portrays men as womanizing creeps who only think about one thing. There is not a single male character under the age of 40 in this movie who is not a world-class jerk.

The women, with Sandy being the exception, are all boy-crazy airheads. Then in the end, just when it looks like Danny, John Travolta's character, will change his behavior and become an upstanding citizen, Sandy changes and become as bad as all the other idiots! Who wrote this film? The president of the anti-Youth society. This movie felt like it was a two hour long infomercial on how bad the Youngsters are today.

So that's my rant out of the way, now for the review. The movie was poorly put together, and I had no idea what actually happened in the movie. The plot was all over the place and the main plot point happened before the film actually began! The song and dance numbers felt out of place, the characters were never full developed. In fact, I'm still not sure who all the characters were. The acting was not bad, in fact it was good. John Travolta, Oliva Newton-John, and Stockard Channing stood out, but they were held back by a poor script and bad directing.

I would not recommend Grease to anyone. If you are desperate for a movie musical I would suggest West Side Story, Annie, My Fair Lady, Oliver, High School Musical, Hairspray, or the Sound of Music. Basically anything but Grease.

RIP Michael Jackson

Yesterday the memorial service for Michael Jackson was held and many wuligies were said and many songs were preformed. During his life their were many debates about Michael Jackson. Was he "Bad"? Was he "Black or White"? Why did he change "The Man in the Mirror"? There is no denying that he was as weird as heck, but we forget that he was a man. He was a man with three children, parents, siblings, and friends.

While I believe that the coverage has been over the top, I wish to offer my sincere condolences to his family. When Paris Jackson took the stage at the memorial yesterday my heart went out to her and her two brothers.

I wish to say goodbye to the King of Pop. Goodbye and may you find peace in death that you never found in life.

Sarah Pailin has just killed her political career

On July 3rd Sarah Pailin announced that she would be leaving office at the end of the month. As a liberal I obviously jumped for joy at the news and rubbed my hands together, but I am going to try and write this post with some non-partisan analysis. It's going to be hard.

Gov. Pailin said that "Once I decided not to run for another term, I didn't want to be lame duck". I have to wonder if Gov. Pailin actually understands what the point of governing is. I'm not getting a dig in at her, I am asking an honest question. The point of governing is to get things done, not advance your political career. I assume Gov. Pailin knows that, but she is going to be attacked by not just the Democrats but the Republicans as well for putting here career before the state's well being.

The Conservatives are already turning against her. Karl Rove, one of the most brilliant and evil political consultants in the country, said on Fox News Sunday, "It's not clear what she's doing and why", "It's a risky strategy," and that he was "a little perplexed.". George Will went a step further saying on This Week, ""The one that rings most hollow is, she doesn't want to put Alaska through the terror of [her] being a lame-duck governor If she is just weary of it, one can understand that. Still, she made a contract with [voters] to serve out her term. And she said, in her own words, she now is a quitter."

Senator Grassley said on Face the Nation " "I would think, if you want to run for president -- and I'm not sure that's got anything to do with what she's doing -- that the forum of a governorship would be a better forum than just being a private citizen,". The Senator is totally right, Gov. Pailin had a shot at the Republican nomination for President before this and I think she just lost it.

I can see the debate now, Huckabee on one side and Romney on the other Romney is talking in that smooth greasy way the he has. "Gov. Pailin resigned because she didn't want to be a "lame duck" If you win Governor will you resign shortly through your second term?" Then Ron Paul will jump in and Huckabee will too. She will have no way out, no excuse. The reason she resigned was that she wanted to run for president and everyone knows that.

Sarah Pailin has tried to do the political equivalent of shooting yourself in the leg so as to get out of war. Unfortunately for her, she missed and put the bullet through her chest, causing internal bleeding. Like internal bleeding, the huge problem this will cause for her may not be seen right away, but it will kill her political career. I'm upset by this because we won't be able to see Tina Fey play Sarah Pailin again. Watching her impersonations online were the highlight of my Sundays during the election. Well I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Attention America, I'm about to be very unpatriotic

Like many other people I went to see fireworks with my family on the 4th, and I realised something....Fireworks are a big waste of money!! We spent approximately $193 Million to import fireworks from China. For what? Some pretty lights in the sky? Famvin reported that 9.1 million people died of hunger last year. Bread for the World reports that a child dies of hunger every five seconds. And we are spending $193 million on fireworks.

I like fireworks as much as anyone, but what purpose do they serve? They are pretty, but didn't China prove last year during the Olympics that CGI can work just as well? Let me hit you with some more statistics, God I love the Internet. The
National Institute of Health reports that 1500 people die of cancer everyday in the US alone. America is ranked worst in preventable deaths, with 100.7 in 100,000 people died last year, according to commonsense. To make a long story short, people are dying and we are spending millions to set off pretty lights! People are dying, and no one seems to care!!

Alright I'm getting carried away, but come on! When you look at the figures it is hard to argue that it is worth it. But if you do think that it is worth it, then please tell me. Comment and tell me why you think that way. I will accept your opinion even though I might disagree with you. All I ask you to do is think about it, nothing more.
